Hi. Everyone calls me Strange. In San Francisco from 1976 to 1980 I gave more than 300 people, mostly strangers, fascinating massages called Strange Experiences. In every case we emerged true friends, liking and trusting each other to an astonishing degree. Luckily, anyone can do what I did. I’m 78 now and feel it’s time to give away my most valuable secret.
I also want to share the joy of having been San Francisco’s most famous unknown celebrity since 1972. That’s when Herb Caen, beloved San Francisco Chronicle star columnist, began startling his maybe-a-million daily Bay Area readers with the quips I mailed him with no return address. Thanks to Herb I’ve been able to walk up to anyone, from lowest to highest, say, “Hi, I’m Strange de Jim,” and be welcomed with a smile.
I’ll share the fun I’ve had with everyone from comedian and Oscar winner Robin Williams to billionaire composer and philanthropist Gordon Getty, not to mention a tasteful slew of others. I’ve enjoyed official government recognition on both local and state levels.
